Blitzen Trapper

Blitzen Trapper - FUV Live - 2013

by Eric Holland
The latest release from the Portland, Oregon based-band is their 7th full-length album, appropriately titled VII. Since their formation in 2000, the band has become known and loved for their alt-rock sound with Americana roots influences. In speaking about new album, frontman Eric Earley cites Waylon Jennings and  New York Hip Hop crew Wu-Tang Clan as influences, and describes the sound of VII as “hillbilly gangster.”  Blitzen Trapper recently rolled into WFUV’s Studio A to play us some of the new songs and talk about the new record.

Newport Folk Festival: Day 1

by Sarah Wardrop
Laura Fedele

Day 1 of the Newport Folk Festival actually ended up being Night 1, given the fact that the festival has never (to my knowledge) gone 'til 9:30pm, but what a way to kick it off: Megafaun, Blitzen Trapper and Wilco. Rain and technical difficulties were on the bill too, but that's just how it goes with live, festival broadcasts! Big props to Blitzen Trapper for making the crowd completely forget the rain storm they'd just been through (wet tambourine and all).

Blitzen Trapper - Words and Music - 2010

by Alisa Ali
The Portland rockers Blitzen Trapper incorporate so many different genres into their sound you could call them kitchen sink rock, and after the success of their 2008 album 'Furr,' and tour with Fleet Foxes, a lot of critics have been starting to call them talented. Their new album is 'Destroyer of the Void,' which brought the sextet into studio-A for a performance and chat with Alisa Ali. [6/16/10]
