Fordham Women's Soccer Notebook

As is customary, teams are tested the greatest when they go on the road. The Fordham Women’s Soccer team felt the effects of this proven theory, falling to 2-2 in Atlantic Ten Conference play after a two-loss weekend in Virginia. They dropped a 6-0 decision to VCU and, with an unfortunate bounce, lost a heart-breaker to Richmond 1-0.

It was the first conference road trip for the girls and the travel was noticeable. Coach Ness Selmani knows all too well that road games are never easy.

Coach's Corner

The Fordham Women’s soccer team has had a bumpy start to its year but as the old adage goes, once conference play starts it’s a new season.  The Lady Rams have momentum going into their A-10 opener against Duquesne tonight, winning their last two games against Fairfield and Loyola respectively. I talked to Head Coach Ness Selmani about the nature of his team, choosing captains, and the team’s new style of play.

Moving On

Losing is a tough pill to swallow. For the Fordham Women’s Soccer team, tying was an even tougher one. The Rams’ playoff hopes were dangling by a thread, and they needed to beat undefeated LaSalle to have a chance to advance. Fordham led late with a 1-0 lead, but LaSalle quickly added a last minute goal to even the score, one that would stay the same through overtime until the final whistle. It was a dissatisfying end to a bumpy season.

“I can’t complain,” said Selmani. “They left it on the field and that’s our trademark.”

Positive Power

Winston Churchill famously said, “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” I have a feeling that this isn’t the slogan the Fordham Women’s Soccer team rallies behind each day. But then again, after you watch this team play, it certainly could be.
