Despite shooting 6-35 from beyond the arc and getting outrebounded by 22 on the glass, the Fordham Rams fell just three points short of defeating Big East powerhouse Marquette this past weekend. The Rams are now 5-2 following the loss, meaning that for the second straight season Fordham has started the season by winning five of its first seven contests. However, as Chris Marasco and I talked about with Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley, this year’s squad has a completely different feel.

Fordham Women's Basketball

After spending Turkey Day in sunny Florida last year, the Fordham Women’s basketball program hit the west coast for the first time since the 2003-2004 season. While the Rams improved to 4-0 with a victory against the University of San Francisco last Wednesday, the undefeated season finally came to an end with a loss to the University of the Pacific.

After losing to both the University of Albany and Cornell University last year, the Fordham Rams women’s basketball team flipped the script to begin the 2012 season by beating both squads on the road this past weekend. The new and improved Rams are 2-0 for the first time since the 2002-2003 season. In fact, Fordham is 2-0 on the road for the first time since the 2004-2005 campaign.

With fall turning to winter, it’s time to look forward to the action on the hardwood.  The women’s basketball team at Fordham has been under new management now for one year, and there is cause for real optimism on Rose Hill.

Its the final 2011-2012 edition of the Stephanie Gaitley show from our WFUV Studios. In this episode of the show, myself and Alex recap the season and get coach Gaitley's thoughts on her first season here at Fordham. We also discussed how coach see's the team moving forward into the 2012-2013 season. She talked about recruits and what the structure of the team will be.

Even though Rams lost in the first round of the A-10 tournament, it was a very rewarding inaugural season for coach Gaitley.

The final regular season edition of the Stephanie Gaitley show features coach Gaitley, Alex and myself previewing the upcoming Phight for Philly this Sunday. Fordham will square off against St. Louis, needing a win and a UMass loss to clinch a postseason birth for the third straight season. The three of us also touched on a very close loss Wednesday night at 19th ranked St. Bonaventure.
