Fordham has had some close games lately, and Saturday's regular season finale against George Washington would be no different. The Rams fell to the Colonials 70-67 in a game where no team had a lead of larger than 5 points.
Tom Pecora joined me ahead of Fordham's regular season finale against George Washington on Saturday. We discussed the team's previous game, a 12-point loss to URIon Wednesday plus what the state of the team is heading into the Atlantic 10 tournament. We also discussed the recent crowds at the Rose Hill Gym and how coach believes fan support impacts the team's play.
Fordham began the game with the same defensive intensity that they showed in the second half of their close loss to LaSalle on Saturday. They went shot for shot with URI down the stretch of first half and went into halftime with a 2-point lead. But, URI went on a run around the ten minute mark of the second half that Fordham couldn't quite answer.
LaSalle's Tyrone Garland forced up a desprate shot from 12-feet out on the left baseline which was deflected in the air by Fordham Senior Branden Frazier. The buzzer sounded at the same time and it seemed like the Rams had come all the way back from 15 point defecit in the first half to send the game to overtime.
Mack Rosenberg and Chris Marasco talk to Fordham Men's Basketball Head Coach Tom Pecora about the team's latest loss against VCU and discuss the matchup with the La Salle Explorers.
Afterwards, Mack and Chris stick around with Matt Moro and Kelly Kultys to discuss the issue of fan support at the Rose Hill Gym after Coach Pecora saying that he was disappointed with the crowd turnout at the VCU game.
The final score put the game much closer than it was for the first 35 minutes. The Saint Joseph Hawks jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and never looked back. Fordham went into the half down 12, with the score at 42-30, but the Hawks were just as hot out of half time. They went up 29 points with 13 to go in the game for their biggest lead of the day. The scoring outburst from Saint Joseph's was large in part thanks to senior guard Langston Galloway's offensive outburst. He scored 33 points and went 10 for 15 from 3-point distance. The Rams defense seemed to have few answers.
Fordham lost a tough one on Saturday night by a final score of 82-70 against the Richmond Spiders. After falling behind 6-0 at the beginning of the game, the Rams surged back with the stellar play of Freshman Jon Severe and Senior Brandon Frazier.
The Rams were down by just 7 points at half time after Frazier went one for two from the foul line with 3 seconds on the clock. It was a back and forth game throughout the second half with Fordham getting to within single digits a couple times but never taking the lead.
Head Coach Tom Pecora sat down with Chris Marasco and Mack Rosenberg to discuss the state of the team and how the Rams are trying to improve.
The Fordham Rams fell to Saint Bonaventure at the Rose Hill Gym 76-65 Wednesday night.
Mandell Thomas and Branden Frazier led Fordham with 20 points apiece, while Andell Cumberbatch and Matthew Wright led the way with 18 points each for Saint Bonaventure. The Bonnies also out rebounded the Rams 40 to 28. The loss dropped the Rams to 9-14 on the season, and 2-8 in Atlantic 10 play.
