Bronx Bombers is the latest sports drama from producers Fran Kirmser and Tony Ponturo, the team responsible for 2012’s Magic/Bird and 2011’s Lombardi.

I got a chance to interview the producers, director, and entire cast in December at Bronx Bombers media day.

This is the first of four articles highlighting different interviews from that day in preparation for the play’s opening night.

If you are a sports fan that loves controversial and underexplored stories and topics then you must get to know the work of documentarian Billy Corben. A longtime resident of Miami, Florida, Corben has directed and produced several engaging and mesmerizing films that look into the often dark and hidden underworlds and cultures of college sports, drugs, and money. His biggest features to date are Cocaine Cowboys, The U, and Broke, the latter most recently premiering last fall as part of ESPN’s ongoing crop of “30 for 30” features.
