Chris Gaston has career game in Fordham's win over Texas State.
Coming off a loss at the Garden on Saturday to St. John's, the Fordham Rams couldn't wait to get back to their home floor, where three of their four wins had come this season. Apparently no one missed the friendly confines of Rose Hill more than Chris Gaston, who set a career high in points and tied a season high in rebounds.
The junior forward netted 35 points, including 20 in the first half, to go along with 15 boards. Gaston had scored 32 three times in his career before Thursday, twice against Rhode Island and once against St. John's in the Carnesecca Arena during his freshman campaign.
The Rams dominated the battle inside against the Bobcats, out scoring Texas State in the paint by a 40-20 margin. Fordham also pounded Texas State on the boards, winning that contest 52-39.
While no other Fordham player reached double figures in scoring, several Rams filled up the stat sheet in other ways. Sophomore Branden Frazier dished out six assists while only turning the ball over once, and Marvin Dominique and Kervin Bristol each grabbed eight rebounds.
Unfortunately for the Rams, Bristol's efforts were limited to 12 minutes, as he turned his left ankle midway through the first half. The extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.
The Rams will have a week layoff for the Christmas holiday before retuning to the hardwood to take on Georgia Tech Thursday night a 8 pm inside the Rose Hill Gym.
