by Dan Romanello
Ruth Brown (courtesy of Rhino)

"The Group Harmony Review" at midnight is a special for Women's History Month. The show will include various ladies of rhythm and blues, the blues, and rock 'n' roll. I'll feature both popular and obscure artists, from a variety of time periods, including Ruth Brown, Hadda Brooks, The Staple Singers, the Shirelles and Savannah Churchill.

The Group Harmony Review For March 14

Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions (c. 1969)

On the "Group Harmony Review" at midnight, I'll trace the vocal group sound from 1956 to 1965. The show will include such artists as Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Arlene Smith and the Chantels, Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, and Barbara English and the Clickettes. It was a golden age of rhythm 'n' blues and rock 'n' roll vocal group harmony.
