After two very successful albums as Bahamas, Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist Afie Jurvanen is stepping out from behind the curtain to reveal his most self-assured album yet. Bahamas is Afie is a breezy collection of songs that are perfect for the late summer. Ahead of the release of the album (which is out tomorrow), Afie and his band performed an FUV Live show for a crowd of WFUV Marquee members at Rockwood Music Hall, which you can listen to right here.

Since the release of St. Vincent's ferociously beautiful self-titled album earlier this year—her fourth solo record—Brooklyn-based Annie Clark's assured ascendance as rock 'n' roll's astonishing guitar-shredding goddess, with silver hair and a sci-fi sparkle in her eye, has been thrilling to watch. So what better way to close out Celebrate Brooklyn's starry 2014 summer season last Saturday night at the Prospect Park Bandshell than with St. Vincent's brilliantly unconventional, explosive show, broadcast live on FUV? Happily, you can revisit that extraordinary night now in the FUV Vault.

White Hinterland - FUV Live - 2014

by Carmel Holt

Baby is the third full-length album released by Casey Dienel under the moniker White Hinterland. The classically-trained New England musician began work on her new album with a very DIY attitude, teaching herself production methods and even building her own studio. During the process of recording these deeply personal songs about heartbreak and frustration, she found that she was actually surrounded by a great network of family and friends. The new songs on Baby showcase Dienel’s natural talent as a vocalist and newfound talent as a producer. On a recent visit to WFUV, Casey played us a couple of tunes live in Studio A and talked about her music.

SOJA - FUV Live - 2014

by Alisa Ali

Amid the Noise and Haste is the sixth full length record from the D.C. based reggae band, SOJA. The new album boasts a bounty of talented collaborators including, Michale Franti, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley and the Grammy award winning producer, “Supa Dups” who has worked with artists like Bruno Mars, Rihanna and John Legend. The band recently stopped by WFUV to perform some of the new material and talk about the new album.

Jenny Lewis - FUV Live - 2014

by Carmel Holt

We first became familiar with this sun-drenched songstress through her work with the band Rilo Kiley, and Jenny Lewis continued to impress us with her sultry and insightful wit on her two solo records and her collaborations with The Postal Service and singer-songwriter (and her boyfriend) Johnathan Rice. Lewis’s recent contribution to the music-loving community is a new album called The Voyager (which is our New Dig this week), and it examines heavy topics of regret and malaise through beguilingly smooth and honey-dripped songs.

Ryley Walker - FUV Live - 2014

by Carmel Holt

Chicago guitarist and songwriter Ryley Walker released his first full-length album, All Kinds of You, earlier this year. It is stacked with warm acoustic guitars and organic drums, and reminds us why folk songs have such longevity in the history of American music. Ryley recently stopped by Studio A to play a couple of new songs, and he also spoke with me about his debut.

Hozier - FUV Live at Electric Lady Studios - 2014

by Russ Borris

Mixing soulful and gospel sounds with classic rock formulas, Hozier (a.k.a. Andrew Hozier-Byrne) is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from Ireland. After releasing two successful EPs, his much anticipated self-titled debut album is set for U.S. release on October 7th. With his band, Hozier recently played an FUV Live set at Electric Lady Studios, and he also talked with me about his past and upcoming recordings and performing at the Newport Folk Festival.

John Fullbright - Sunday Breakfast - 2014

by John Platt

John Fullbright, the prodigiously talented young folksinger from Woody Guthrie's hometown, Okemah, OK, has been winning fans (along with a Grammy nomination) with the power of his songwriting and his performances. But he hasn't let the acclaim go to his head, just concentrating on his craft. He shared his thoughts about that and performed three songs (including a deep blues cover) in this return visit to Studio A.

tUnE-yArDs - FUV Live - 2014

by Alisa Ali

Considered one of the most unique acts of the 21st century, tUnE-yArDs is the project headed by multi-talented musician Merrill Garbus. Recently, Garbus and company released their third album, Nikki Nack, and it proves once again that their music is one of a kind. The new album thrives on the band’s strengths of funky beats and Garbus’s rain-dance style vocals. The band recently stopped by Studio A to play us some of their new material and to talk with me about the album.
