On Your Radar: Tall Heights/Tina Shafer/Jesse Terry

by John Platt
A A

The June 13 On Your Radar at Rockwood Music Hall spotlighted Jesse Terry, Tina Shafer, and Tall Heights. You'll find a live performance from each of them that night below.

Jesse Terry is a singer-songwriter and road warrior, whose music has been compared to Ryan Adams, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. After graduating Berklee College of Music, Terry landed a publishing deal in Nashville, where he worked for five years before growing restless and hitting the road full-time. He has shared festival stages with Dar Williams, David Wilcox, Lori McKenna and Rodney Crowell. Jesse is currently working with acclaimed producer Neilson Hubbard on his third CD, slated for an early fall release. (http://www.jesseterrymusic.com/)

With Tall Heights, captivating vocal harmonies drive a folk-inspired accompaniment of cello and acoustic guitar. For the duo’s debut full-length effort Man of Stone, released May 14th, the Boston-based duo returned to the home studio, sinking deeper into the vast world they’ve meticulously built for two. The title track recalls a time when cavemen documented day-to-day existence on the walls of their stone-sheltered dwellings. The record exists in a fire-lit, shadowy space for their growing army of fans to inhabit. (http://www.tallheights.com/)

Tina Shafer has written songs for Celine Dion. Sheena Easton, Phoebe Snow, Billy Porter and Bette Middler. She has recorded three personal albums of her own and is also a top vocal coach in NYC having worked with Grammy winning artist, Jesse Harris, Tony nominee, Billy Porter (Kinki Boots), Lana Del Rey, Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) to name a few. She is currently the Artistic Director of The New York Songwriters Circle. (http://www.myspace.com/tinashafer)

The next On Your Radar on July 9 will feature Round Mountain, Jean Rohe, and Twangtown Paramours.
