UKNY On FUV Honors Nelson Mandela On December 14

by Kara Manning

On UKNY at 11 tonight, the show's weekly Commonwealth Cut expands to an entire South African-inspired set in honor of Nelson Mandela, who will be laid to rest in his childhood village of Qunu on Sunday. Music has always been closely linked to the great man and UKNY will include recordings from Hugh Masekela, Lira, The Specials and others.

Plus, brand new music from Jimi Goodwin of Doves, who'll release his first solo album in March, as well as Rosie Lowe, Kaleida and more.

That's UKNY, Saturday nights at 11p.m. EDT, following Vin Scelsa's "Idiot's Delight"® and Marshall Crenshaw's "The Bottomless Pit" on 90.7 WFUV, also streaming online.

Outside marveling at the snowfall? You can find UKNY in the FUV archives up to two weeks after broadcast.
