Question of the Day: Rock & Roll Censorship

by Corny O'Connell
A A

The Rolling Stones performed "Let's Spend the Night Together" on The Ed Sullivan Show on this date in 1967. However, they were forced to change the lyrics to, "let's spend some time together." Censorship of pop and rock has a long history and continues today with the jailing of Pussy Riot in Russia. Can you think of other instances? Leave your suggestion in the comments below or send it to morning@wfuv.org.

Here's what we played:

Link Wray "Rumble"

Billie Holiday "Love for Sale"

Janis Ian "Society's Child"

Elvis Costello "Radio Radio"
