Question of the Day: It's anything but silent at WFUV

by George Evans
A A

There are many stories to the how and why Silent Night was made, what is known for sure is that the song was first performed on Christmas Eve in 1818 at a church in Salzburg, Austria.

The lyrics for "Stille Nacht" were written in 1816 by Father Joseph Mohr, who came to Salzburg in 1817.  He asked Franz Xaver Gruber to compose a melody and guitar accompaniment for Christmas Eve church services.  It was performed for the first time during the mass.

Silent Night is one of those quintessential Christmas songs.  What is yours?  Tell us what Christmas tune is your favorite, one that make the holiday for you below in the comments.  Dont' forget to include your first name and the town you are from.
