New York Times

The Great Brinks Robbery, one of the biggest and most elaborate robberies ever, happened on this date in 1950. The crooks got away with it...almost, and that's usually the fate of and robbers portrayed in song. What's your favorite ballad about a crook, thief or robber? Leave your suggestion in the comments below or send it to morning@wfuv.org.

1. The New Riders of the Puple Sage, "Glendale Train"

2. Robert Earl Keen Jr., "The Road Goes On Forever"

3. Richard Thompson, "1952 Vincent Black Lightning"

4. The Decemberists, "The Perfect Crime #2"
