New Music Monday is a collection of the best new releases in music each week. We share them with you every Monday, every hour on WFUV.
Omara “Bombino” Moctar comes from a Tuareg encampment in Agadez, Niger, though he’s been very far from home recently. The guitarist impressed the very impressive Grammy Award-winning Dan Auerbach enough to have him produce this cool new album.
Daughter was originally the solo project of the London-based songwriter Elena Tonra. She expanded to a trio and obviously the switch has been successful; this lead single from the debut LP is beautiful.
Meat Puppets- Rat Farm
This new album marks both more than 30 years of work as a band and a shift in musical direction for the Meat Puppets. Here the alternative rockers move to more of a folk sound and we think that it works pretty well.
The Olms- The Olms
The Olms are the new project from long time solo musician Pete Yorn and visual artist/musician JD King. This album has a very nice, beachy pop feel to it. Basically, it sounds like a great way to start Summer.
Southside Johnny & The Poor Fools- Songs From the Barn
Johnny is a legend, both in the New Jersey rock scene and WFUV’s history. This new album with his side project The Poor Fools certainly lives up to the classics he’s made with The Asbury Jukes.
