New Music Monday Has Some Pretty New Tunes

New Music Monday is a collection of the best new releases in music each week. We share them with you every Monday, every hour on WFUV.

Rhye- Woman

This silky, R&B influenced record is Rhye’s absolutely beautiful debut. It’s low-key yet consistently engaging. The half-Danish/half-Canadian duo is really onto something here.

Brittany Howard & Ruby Amanfu- “I Wonder/When My Man Comes Home”

Brittany Howard, of Alabama Shakes, and Ruby Amanfu, of Sam and Ruby, are part of the newest generation of FUV staples. This collaboration from the two comes from Jack White’s Third Man Records. What could make it more complete?

The Milk Carton Kids- The Ash & Clay

The LA-based band makes some of the prettiest folk I’ve heard in a while. The Ash & Clay comes after to their move to ANTI- records and establishes them as a serious new voice in the genre.

Steve Martin & Edie Brickell- “Love Has Come For You”

Actor/comedian Steve Martin shows off his considerable banjo talents on this track; though having Brickell’s beautiful vocals as compliment makes it is easy to sound good. (I bet you’re glad I didn’t make a Jerk reference, right? (Too late… Sorry.))

The Wild Feathers- “The Ceiling”

We can deal with a little country twang, especially when it works as well as it does with this new Nashville band. This track is catchy but with enough restraint to be a very compelling new release.
