CD of the Week - Port of Morrow

by Corny O'Connell
A A

WFUV CD of the Week - Thursday 8pm on 90.7 FM in New York City

The Shins got their big break in 2004 when Zach Braff included several of their songs in the film Garden State. That exposure helped their next release, Wincing the Night Away, debut at number two on the Billboard album chart. Since then, frontman James Mercer teamed with Danger Mouse as Broken Bells to release an album under that name in 2010. Mercer is now the only remaining member of The Shins. On Port of Morrow he’s backed by a revolving cast of performers borrowed from bands such as Modest Mouse and Crystal Skulls. Greg Kurstin (Geggy Tah, Action Figure Party, The Bird and the Bee) ties it all together as producer.

The Shins perform at Terminal 5 in New York City April 29-May 1.
