U.K. singer/songwriter Michael Kiwanuka has had over-night success with his career. Last year before he had released any recordings, he opened for Adele on tour. Then he won the prestigious BBC Sound of 2012 poll even before releasing his full-length debut album, Home Again.
Kiwanuka’s parents fled Idi Amin’s regime in Uganda in the 1970s. Michael was born in North London and grew up listening to bands such as Nirvana and Radiohead. He played in various cover bands, studied jazz at the Royal Academy of Music and pop music at Westminster University. Then he heard Otis Redding's "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" and was inspired to take a more stripped-back direction to his music. This debut makes him one of the most promising new artists of 2012.
