The Amigos Band

David Amram and The Amigos - Sunday Breakfast - 2014

by John Platt
Jeremy Rainer

David Amram is a true musical Renaissance man - classical composer, jazz musician, sideman for everybody from Dizzy Gillespie to Steve Goodman - as well as an author, activist, and indefatigable source of positive energy. On the eve of his 84th birthday, he shared memories of Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Jack Kerouac, and his philosophy of life and performed songs with The Amigos Band on the Sunday Breakfast.

The Amigos Band - Sunday Breakfast - 2014

by John Platt
The birth of The Amigos came when Sam Reider, a classically trained pianist from California, happened to bring his accordion to a party where North Carolina-born Justin Poindexter had his guitar, and they found instant musical chemistry. The Amigos embrace all kinds of American music, from Western swing and Cajun to country and folk with flair and fun. On their visit to Studio A they were joined by the ageless musical renaissance man, David Amram, on various wind instruments and percussion.
